Business Update

Thanks to our project and field teams, we continue to see exciting new projects coming from existing clients, especially our favorite parcel and fulfillment companies.

For instance, the photo above is the handiwork of our Tupelo team. This system is being provided for a longtime parcel client at their Memphis Airport facility.

Chalk up these successes to

  • Business generation: staying in front of the customer. Communicate, communicate, communicate.

  • Internal growth: skill, collaboration, communication (see above), and the continual evolution of the way we work as individuals and as a team.

We also wrapped up the Alcove project for our favorite dairy producer (more about them below). This was a showcase of the team’s depth and diligence. And here’s a shout-out for Paul Newell as he stepped out of his comfort zone (Millwright) by taking on the site superintendent role – coordinating sub-contractors and communicating with all parties.

And if it seems like everyone is SUPER BUSY…you might be right. For example, SilMan has put boots on the ground in these states during the last month:

• AZ, CA, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MI, MS, NC, NV, NY, TN, TX, VA, WA

And one more thing…Did we mention that we just made our largest single sale ever! Yes, EVER!

This automated parking system project is at Hudson’s in Detroit. It will be the largest system in the country: 777 spaces.

Signed, sealed, delivered – Motown, here we come! (if that makes you want to hear the song, here you go)

Hats off to the team who have made us the leader for all things APS and SAPS!

From The Field

M&E in NorCal

industrial mechanical electrical

Our CA Mechanical & Electrical teams completed a brand new Package Line for our favorite dairy producer.

The #1 Challenge: Schedule!

Two 10-hour shifts per day, six days/week, 27 days. Despite the grueling schedule, the team managed to deliver above expectations for our cherished client, including field adaptions to drawings that improved constructability and reduced the time to fabricate and install structural steel. Wisdom and experience!

What did they do?

De-energize and remove existing equipment to make room for new technology. Onsite structural steel fabrication supports the implementation of advanced conveyor equipment and controls. The success of the project is a result of the close cooperation between mechanical, electrical, and controls teams, providing the client with a completely new level of productivity.

Key Team Members:

  • Create/execute the schedule, and organize our skilled professionals: Tyde (day), Jesse (night), Justin (lead), Daryl (night), Krista (coord) and Shellia

  • And in the trenches making the magic happen: Richard Eichhorn, Caleb Siewell, Hayden Wirth, Michael Tressler, Adrian Monseth, Jerrit Batsel, Nathan Blair, Shane Benson, Anthony Napier, David Taylor, John Link, Frank Muniain, Jacob Muniain, Tyler Kirby, Jason Ruanavaara, Juan Reyes, Israel Martinez, Hugo Padilla

“It was amazing to see the team kick butt at this magnitude and with this schedule. With their skill and experience, they turned it into a cake walk.” – Shellia

Meet Angel Huerta

angel huerta

Angel Huerta is a legacy team member. In fact, prior to joining SilMan, he was moonlighting for a couple of ambitious entrepreneurs (you know who!) flipping houses…until they started SilMan Industries and hooked Angel as a site leader!

Today, Angel supports our construction team as a connector between Project Managers and Site Leaders. He played a crucial role in recent renovation projects at St. Rose Hospital, C&H Sugar, Sun Chemical, and SJC Airport.

Huerta arrived from Juarez, Mexico in 1990. He landed in NorCal to work with his grandfather and other family members, who are all mechanics. Angel, however, found his own path in construction.

On weekends you are likely to find Angel going off-road in his Can-Am traveling to all parts of California enjoying different trails.

What is your favorite part of working at SilMan?

“One of my favorite aspects that I enjoy of this company is the simple fact that we are all treated equally, we are all given an equal opportunity to continue to grow within the company.” – Angel

Safety Tip

Stay Cool!

civil team in the sun

Understanding daily temperatures and humidity is one thing. However, when every day is just “hot,” and team members are required to work in it, you’ve got to be prepared.

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Use cooling rags/gaiters

  • Take frequent breaks in the shade

Consuming fresh water throughout the day is key to staying hydrated enough to self-regulate your body’s core temperature. Also, don’t forget to add in drinks with a balance of electrolytes to support proper hydration.

Staying cool in the sun is essential to working productively. Try using cooling rags or gaiters. There are a lot of options on the market and they do a wonderful job in both protecting your skin from the direct sun and cooling the skin by keeping temperatures down. Wrap cooling rags around vital areas such as your head, neck, face or chest to keep the brain and circulatory system cool.

You deserve a break! About every hour or so, remove yourself from the sun and escape to a cool shaded area with plenty of ventilation. Whenever possible, provide a shaded area around the work. If that’s not practical, at least find some shade as a place to sit down and chill for a few minutes, or however long you need to cool off.

This is also a great chance to refuel yourself with water, electrolytes and rest.

Amarillo by Morning

Caleb is a Millwright Leader, currently working on the Park Plus project in Redmond, Wash.

Caleb is from Sacramento, Calif. and he’s nuts about the outdoors: camping, fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles.

And when it comes to his favorite music, Caleb keeps it country. His favorite artist is legendary Texan George Strait singing a song about the Lone Star State: Amarillo by Morning.

“I love this song because it’s a story about a traveling man trying to get back home.” – Caleb

Foundations

Reflections On The Way We Work & Connect

As we celebrate our first newsletter, there is only one word that is on my mind as I consider the title of this space: Foundations.

It’s amazing what is possible when we come together, collaborate, and all move in the same direction.

However, we often overlook what it takes for us all to be successful.

We are all unique and bring something different to each and every day.

There are many things that make a difference, although nothing makes more of an impact than our coming together as a Team.

We all have so much to offer, and when we take the time to find the talents within, we become stronger.

Let us all be mindful of the wonderful Team we are surrounded by, and always find the path that will allow us to grow and keep us together.

Team… this is our foundation.
