Business Update

The NUMMI plant in 2003. SilMan’s team moved this system to Mississippi in 2010. In 2022, we’re back on site working on the assembly line of the new owner: Tesla.
The SilMan Material Handling team is hitting milestones in our relationship with OnTrac, thanks to key team members Eric Bickford, Michael Jensen, Kevin Jackson, Ian Fulton, Garrett King, David Birmingham, and David Rebata.
New Service Area
SilMan Site Services has agreed to provide a new maintenance and staff augmentation program for a local steel mill: six electricians on three shifts, working hand in hand with internal maintenance crews.
Additionally, we have been contracted by a construction materials manufacturer to create a maintenance program, supplying 20+ team members for a full-day shutdown each month.
This is an exciting new frontier for SilMan, as we are in negotiations with other industrial clients to provide similar services.
Going Full-Circle
Lastly, SilMan returns to our roots on a new project with Daifuku at Tesla. Our Mechanical and Electrical teams will install and power a line extension for an overhead conveyance system.
It is a historic return for our company.
In 2010, SilMan decommissioned the Toyota / GM system from this very same plant, known then as NUMMI. Our team relocated and installed the system in a Mississippi Toyota facility.
The result? SilMan’s local reputation exploded and we established a second office in Tupelo, setting the stage to serve our clients on a national basis.
A big thank you to all the team members who got us here and the current teams who are cementing our legacy! It is a moment worth celebrating.

From The Field
FedEx Express, San Diego Airport
After nearly two years of architecture, design, and permitting we finally have boots on the ground in San Diego.
SilMan was originally contracted by FedEx Express to procure equipment for a new caster deck at the San Diego airport. As events have unfolded, we are now self-performing the entire project.
Our Civil and Electrical teams are currently onsite.
Scope of Work:
Omar Montiel-Tapia and Jose Martinez have done an outstanding job managing all site activities. Exciting things are on the horizon for these two gents!
Team members on this project include: Omar Montiel-Tapia, Jose Martinez, Hugo Padilla, Nico Montiel, and Pedro Contreras – AKA Mr. Pete!
Also, a big thank you to Richie for his tenacity in navigating multiple agencies in order to secure permits.
Construction managers are Justin and Rafael, and Chris Fredrickson and Lindsey provide support for the project.
The team is housed in an Air-BNB rental and by all reports, they seem to be getting along just fine, on the clock and off. Including a custom fitness center!
Chris said: “Having two years to work through the project’s design has its advantages. The team is confident they’ve planned the most expeditious course of construction.”

Community Spotlight
Meet Lindsey Donaldson

Lindsey hails from Memphis and moved to Tupelo when she married in 2017.
Coming from a career in residential construction, fate came her way when she saw an open job position on LinkedIn (Way to go, Pam!). She was interviewed by Pam and the Engineering leads before joining the team.
At first, Lindsey supported the engineering team as a project administrator. Her responsibilities were focused on purchase orders and administrative project support. However, she continued to push the Team Leads in Mississippi for more responsibility and project involvement and joined the project coordinator team in 2020. And she loves it! Especially the continual learning.
“At first I was totally intimidated by Maria,” she laughed, “but she is so sweet and team-driven. I consider her a great friend, leader, and mentor.”
- Trial by fire: Lindsey’s first big project? The Air Knife implementation for our favorite fulfillment company.
Not surprisingly, Lindsey’s favorite thing to do is hang out with her husband, Jeremy, and their two daughters. The youngest is only six months old, so lots of good times to come. In her spare moments, she can be found knitting and sipping on a latte.
What is your favorite part of working at SilMan?
“There is such a great office environment in Tupelo. We can be serious and productive equally as well as messing around and having a good laugh at the office. I also know that if I needed any help every one of them would be there for me. It’s a close-knit team that makes me love my job every day. The coordinators are in constant communication and we have a great team dynamic.” – Lindsey

Safety Tip
Can you see clearly now?
Let’s keep it that way.

“Clear or shaded” Your safety Glasses Should be Z87 rated!
The importance of wearing your safety glasses should not be questioned. And as they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Imagine yourself not being able to see that picture, at all.
Safety glasses protect you from irreversible damage to your eyes on a daily basis. For instance, dust dispersal, liquid splashes, blunt impact, and high-velocity particles.
Therefore, safety glasses are in no question a large part of Safety awareness and preparedness.
The images shown above are just two kinds of ANSI Z87.1 tests that safety glasses are required to pass in order to become your first line of defense to protect your eyes.

Cyberhex
Tyler Tanner lives in Modesto, Calif. and more than anything, he enjoys family time.
He also gets a lot of drive time in. One day during his morning commute he heard “Cyberhex” by Motionless in White for the first time.
“I was by myself, getting pumped for the day, and this song just hit me…I loved the vibe. For me, this band has some deep-meaning songs, but this one has a really energetic feel.”

Reflections On The Way We Work & Connect
The other perspective… understanding what others think and how they feel
We tend to overlook, or merely miss all together, the way someone else interprets a situation. When working with others we typically want to share our own knowledge and experiences, which will limit the value offered by others.
Have you asked to hear the thoughts of others and consider the value they may bring? If we don’t ask, and encourage others to offer their perspective, we may be overlooking a new solution or silencing a new way of thinking.
Having an empathetic approach is not often something we consider, especially when we believe we have the right answer. We should be mindful of the individuals we are communicating with and consider what they have to offer, as more times than not, we will learn something new along the way.
Empathy… it is the bridge for many situations and a path to building lasting relationships.
